Pia Fleckenstein's focus is in paintings on wood. In it, she weaves spaces, figures and objects into fluid patterns. Formal metamorphoses are brought to life in anatomical landscapes, which are placed in a figurative narrative through facial lines and physical gestures. The paintings become cartographic portraits in which the human dissolves into plant and animal structures. Pia works on a ship (currently in Hamburg), with which she has been underway since 2023 to exhibit art on the water. Together with Nik Fleckenstein, she works on steel sculptures that translate the paintings into spatial lines.
"There can be something sublime in the formation of hands, which in a certain light resembles the curvature of a branch or the impression of a weeping gaze. In my work, I look for intersections of these overlays and for the heartbreak of things."
